More than 200 NTU students will have to retake the test after the work is published online
SINGAPORE: More than 200 students at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are required to retake their module’s final test after the exam paper is posted on the student learning platform before the test begins.
The HP2200 (Biological Psychology) course final test was held at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, Associate Professor Chia Wai Mun said in response to CNA’s request on Monday (Nov. 14), adding that most students passed their test deposited in a lecture hall.
Assoc Prof. Chia, Associate Chair (Academic) at NTU’s School of Social Sciences, added that students with COVID-19 took an online version of the test administered by the Undergraduate Office.
“All students took the same work and started at the same time.”
However, NTU later learned that the test paper was found on the student learning platform before the test began.
“We are very disappointed with what happened. We apologize to students for having to retake the test, but this is necessary to ensure fairness for all,” said Assoc Prof Chia.
Assoc Prof Chia added: “The school has reached out to the affected students and in general they have accepted that re-testing is a fair thing to do. The school works with the students on a suitable date.”
NTU confirmed that 218 students were affected.
The school will also carry out a thorough review of its examination procedures and take the necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
