MIND BIZ: Holistic Hands Wellness Gallery
Holistic therapy practitioners have been around for decades with increasing adoption in traditional Western culture, but the lack of insurance coverage and co-payments kept them out of reach for many who might benefit. Toledo native Lesley Baker Bowen’s passion for wellness led her to found the Holistic Hands Wellness Gallery, which offers a range of therapies. The creation of this communal space, which offers a variety of healing services, is a highlight of Bowens’ work Passion for wellness and your life’s work.
Lesley studied music and medicine at the University of Wittenberg, where she was also active in the volleyball and rowing team. She received her Masters in Occupational Therapy from Ohio State University and has been an occupational therapist since 2007.
During her time as a therapist, Bowen was drawn to a holistic approach to wellness, which led her to become a Reiki Master and Cranio-Sacral Therapist. Bowen’s CranioSacral Therapy Practice treats patients ages 98 through to newborns, including treating little ones with nutritional problems and bandaging the tongue / lips before and after revisions.
Bowen describes the Holistic Hands Wellness Gallery (HHWG) as a non-profit organization that provides access to holistic wellbeing. “We recognize a growing need for mental health and well-being support and strive to serve those in need by providing safe options and therapies and opportunities for artistic expression.”
The therapies are universal and can be used in any life for the well-being of body and mind. Bowen’s goal – to make these opportunities available and affordable – is backed by the gallery’s financial support (if needed) and childcare during appointments to give people a safe space to relax and meditate.
The renovation of the HHWG building will ensure full accessibility and include an art gallery highlighting local artists and the UToledo art department. Craniosacral therapy, massage therapy, Crystal Bowl sound therapy, meditation, Reiki, group fitness and mindful art and creativity courses are just some of the many offers.
To find out more about the HHWG, Stay Well Session Samplers take place once a month, where participants can get to know various courses / services / workshops for 20-30 minutes.
Bowen founded the HHWG and stated, “I can’t tell you how much we enjoy our work as practitioners every day. It feels wrong to even call it “work” – it’s the stuff of life for us! You can easily feel the love when you participate in retreats, events and stay well session samplers. “
