PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) – Wren High School Graduation Coach Lisa Wilson says the Wren High School community has dealt with its fair share of tragedy in recent years.

“Several who took their own lives,” she explained.

To try to help the school who #Me too The school program comes Monday after Wren High.

“I really feel like after a day with them, the kids are a lot more prepared and equipped to help out a friend,” Wilson said.

Wren High School is one of only 10 K-12 schools in the country eligible to host the program this year.

Former NFL player Reggie Walker will travel upstate to share his past experiences and his own mental health journey.

He will be joined at school by #SameHere Global CEO and Founder Eric Kussin.

“Our mission is to normalize society’s perception of mental health and make it a part of our everyday conversations, so we’re doing that,” Kussin said.

According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, 54 people died by suicide in the county in 2020.

This is an increase from 36 in the previous year.

“As more and more people talk, we’re still using the same language as before, and that’s why we come to these schools,” Kussin said.

Wilson has one simple hope for her students now and beyond.

“Gives everyone the tools they need to help someone else and maybe even help themselves,” she said.

These statewide programs are being run thanks to a grant from the National Football League Players Association.
