Texas Border Business
A governmental organization has selected McAllen ISDs Fields Elementary for recognition of its outstanding counseling program. Fields Elementary’s counselor is Ms. Jessica Guerrero.
In 2005, the Texas School Counselor Association launched a program called CREST to recognize schools with outstanding counseling programs. Schools that receive CREST awards have demonstrated their commitment using the Texas Model to improve student lives and achievements in academic, professional, and personal social areas. The Texas School Counseling Association is proud to announce the CREST winners for the 2021-22 school year.
CREST is a continuous improvement document that provides a school counseling program with an opportunity to demonstrate effective communication and commitment to achieving results. CREST helps counselors evaluate their counseling programs, promote their programs to stakeholders in their districts, demonstrate the effectiveness of their counseling and counseling programs through empirical means, and implement the Texas and national models for school counseling programs.
CREST views the counseling program in five categories:
• Introduction to school and the role of the vocational school counselor
• Program implementation cycle
• Basic components
• Four service delivery components
• Program curriculum
