Your wedding should of course be a beautiful day, with a beautiful ceremony and a big party. But the more you want with your wedding, the bigger the price tag attached to it. How much do you actually have to save for your wedding and how do you approach that?
The price of a complete wedding differs per couple and of course depends on your wishes. If you get married for free on Monday morning and give a party at home, you will of course pay much less than if you choose a wedding with all the trimmings. On average, a wedding costs around 12,000 to 18,000 euros. For a very extensive wedding you have to count on around 25,000 euros.
The table below shows how much each part of the wedding costs on average.

Saving for wedding – how do you do it?
A wedding usually costs a lot of money. Therefore always make a good budget of what your wedding will cost. Moreover, always count 10 percent on top of the budget, because in practice you almost always give more than budgeted, because you still want something extra or because unexpected costs are added.
You then calculate how much you should save. For this, deduct the amount that you already have and any financial windfalls (such as your holiday allowance) from the total amount to be saved. You divide the remaining amount by the number of months you have to save. Now the amount that you have to save per month for your wedding remains.
Saving for wedding – Right savings account
Choosing the right savings account helps you save. Always choose a separate savings account for your wedding, so that you keep an overview.
Usually a freely withdrawable savings account fits best, because you have the freedom to save when it suits you. Moreover, these savings accounts sometimes offer something extra. With automatic saving, for example, the bank automatically transfers money from your checking account to your savings account. And a bonus interest account encourages you not to withdraw money, because you get a lower interest rate.
In some cases, a savings deposit may fit better, namely if you already have a certain amount available and want to keep it until your wedding. You then choose a duration yourself, for example half a year, a year or 5 years. You are not allowed to withdraw money during the term. You receive a fixed interest rate, which with a longer term is higher than the interest on a regular savings account. But if the interest on savings is lower than on a regular savings account, it is of course better to leave the money in your freely withdrawable savings account.
